MITCH COOPER FOR SHERIFF COMMITTEE
P.O. Box 202
Altoona, Pennsylvania 16603

January 7, 2009

Just around the corner will be important elections in Blair County. My interest in one of those elections causes me to write to you. That would be the election for Blair County Sheriff. I have formed a committee to run for the position in the May 2009 Republican Primary Election.

I believe that the current drug and crime problem in Blair County, along with the expanding number of individuals from other jurisdictions committing crime, a Sheriff should have adequate law enforcement and administrative experience. My background is suited for the position; I recently retired from the Altoona Police Department after twenty-six years of service. I spent the last seven years of my career as Deputy Chief of Police, directing the daily operations of the seventy-four officer department. My experience provides the proper balance of serving in law enforcement as well as supervising employees and running a budget.

As a former police officer, I know the importance of the criminal justice system, social service agencies, business and citizens working together to fight for the values so many of us here in Blair County share. When I spoke to community groups over the years, I repeatedly talked about the need for cooperation between all facets of our community if we hope to have success fighting crime. I am committed to Blair County, aside from my five years service in the U.S. Air Force; I am a life long resident of Blair County. My wife Gina and I raised our three children here.

I respectfully request your vote and support. Having already had the privilege of serving as a police officer in Altoona, I assure you I will continue my proven leadership as Blair County Sheriff. Unfortunately, campaigns have become extremely expensive. I would appreciate any financial contribution you can afford to aid in my effort. Checks can be made payable to “Mitch Cooper for Sheriff Committee”.

Please take a few minutes to review and complete the enclosed Volunteer/Support form and return it to me in the enclosed envelope. I would be honored to receive your support. With your help, I am confident that we will be successful.

Sincerely,

Mitch Cooper
